Diagram conventions and readings — Volume III

The mathematical diagrams use editable TikZ paths, point markers and LaTeX labels. The principal historical figures were read at enlarged resolution. Selected corresponding figures in the Göttingen 1876 second impression were also consulted. Curves follow the observed drawings, including their major visible gaps and crossings; no analytic conic or ideal spherical figure was substituted. Double frames represent the plate layout. Letterforms, stroke widths, small printing gaps and label spacing are modern representations, without a claim of identical historical printing contours.

The first plate has figures1 and2 above figures4 and3. In figure1 the right-hand G has no visible prime in the principal witness; the selected1876 impression has a prime. The principal absence is retained. Caption punctuation likewise follows the principal plate: Fig1. and Fig.2., then Fig4 and Fig3. The detached mark beside7 and the isolated crescent at the lower right of figure4 are treated as incidental ink after selected comparison. Those printing-intent interpretations remain qualified.

The signed-region plate retains its numbered labels0 through13, five plus signs, five minus signs, four open point markers and the principal filled point. The filled point is visibly present in the principal witness but absent from the corresponding selected1876 figure. Its diagrammatic intent is uncertain; an incidental-ink interpretation remains possible. Detached strokes outside the curves are not given mathematical meaning. The two complex-domain strips retain their labels, boundary strokes, curved brackets and visible line gap.

The curved pentagram has35 label entries. One principal label reads R followed by5 with an unpunctuated gap; the selected1876 figure reads R minus5. The absent principal minus is not supplied. A small visible isolated stroke along one broken outer arc is retained, with its interpretation as a curve fragment qualified. The adjoining pentagon has ten Greek products and ten Latin angle letters. Its curled historical beta is represented by an editable Greek beta. Small clearances around the product labels keep them readable over the dotted rays.

The visible absences and marks can be read with high contour confidence while their printing intent remains uncertain. These readings do not certify concealed principal contours from another impression. No historical mathematical expression is silently corrected. The diagrams are source-based modern drawings with qualified readings, not facsimiles or an independent scholarly review.
